Proven ability to reduce inflationary rates for drug costs – Our clients, with over 500,000 members, have saved millions of dollars since 2004 by controlling their overall drug benefit expenditures using the RxResults process recommendations. In one state, the employee benefit plan saw an increase of 10% for drug costs over a three-year period, or an average of 3.3% cost growth per year. That was 70% less than the national average prescription cost growth for the same time period.
Focus on lowest net cost rather than maximizing rebates – RxResults will recommend the management approach that produces the lowest net cost for your plan and your employee, whether it is the promotion of generic drugs or using the most cost-effective brand-name drugs when generic alternatives are not available.

A primary driver of rising costs for any prescription drug program is the use of brand-name drugs. Today, brand-name drugs account for roughly 35% - 40% of a plan's total prescription claims while accounting for approximately 80% of the total spend. Most PBMs, through contracting with select pharmaceutical manufacturers, can secure some level of manufacturer rebates for the use of brand-name drugs that are favorably positioned on the plan's Preferred Drug List (PDL) or formulary. Some portion of these rebates may be shared with the plan to help reduce overall plan cost. Based on many factors, the generation or maximization of manufacturer rebates can become a primary focus for the PBM. This can lead to the promotion and use of the most costly drugs and may not be in the best financial interest of the plan or the patient. While a reasonably structured PDL coupled with optimization of manufacturer rebates can play an important role in reducing cost, it is important to keep rebates in perspective. RxResults is equipped to evaluate your manufacturer contracts and incorporate all economic considerations into the evidence-based management approach. RxResults will provide the entire economic and clinical picture to support informed decision making.

Our recommended preferred drugs are selected based on clear evidence provided from well-documented literature review and research by the UAMS faculty whose professional careers have focused on a specific drug class or the diseases treated by these drugs. UAMS conducts their own evaluations of the medical literature and does not entertain presentations or accept documentation from pharmaceutical manufacturers. Additionally, UAMS maintains no contractual relationship with any manufacturer involving rebates on drugs. Therefore, all evidence-based support provided by UAMS lacks industry bias.

A preferred drug list does not always meet the needs of each patient. When clinical criteria are met, an authorization may be granted for your employee to receive a non-preferred drug, but you can be assured that the decision was carefully reviewed with the interest of the employee's care as a top priority.

At RxResults, we have excellent academic and practicing physicians and pharmacists who take an unbiased approach in reviewing new drugs entering the market. Based on our research, wealth of experience, and recommendations, our clients can make informed decisions about how to manage new drugs with respect to their drug benefit plan. Clients are more comfortable setting limitations or co-payment tiers (preferred brand, non-preferred brand, or 100% patient co-payment) when RxResults has thoroughly reviewed newly introduced drugs. Our ongoing evaluation brings additional long-term savings to the drug plan, with an added bonus that your employees are steered to drugs that actually perform better for them.
